I am so excited to share these photos on the blog today! Last weekend I flew from Chicago to Seattle, then on to Bellingham…drove to Surrey, BC and then took the ferry to Victoria to shoot Joel & Nicole’s beautiful wedding. I grew up in BC, and have been looking forward to shooting this wedding for a long time…the beauty there is un-matched (ok, maybe I’m biased) and there’s just a natural, soft feel to the landscape that I love. It feels like home.
I first met Nicole about 8 years ago when I was 19. I worked at a camp on Thetis Island that summer, and she was part of the work crew…we have stayed connected through facebook, and she contacted me when Joel proposed to see if I’d come shoot their wedding! It has been really great to see how Nicole has grown and changed since I knew her then, and so fun to observe she and Joel together. The love and joy on both of their faces was priceless.
To change it up a bit I’ll start off with our groom…lookin’ handsome!
I absolutely loved the detail on Nicole’s dress…Gorgeous. Gorgeous!!
I don’t think any of the girls really understood why I got so excited when I saw the bridesmaid dresses…but look! They’re perfect! The garter was also worn by Nicole’s mom.Good thing Trina was right there when the tears started to flow. I love this moment.
Beautiful. She should model wedding dresses, seriously.oooh the flowers! Nicole said that she told the florist the colors & style of her wedding and just let them do what they thought was best. So smart. They’re the experts, right? They know what to do, and did such an amazing job .
Sweet. Tears all around.
We had tons of great options for where to take photos, and started by shooting at Island View Beach, near Victoria. The thing about BC is, it can rain at any moment…so, we were thankful for the high clouds.
Love, love, love.
I bought this vintage umbrella a while ago, and have been saving it for Joel & Nicole…I just couldn’t bear to narrow down my choices, so I thought – why make this difficult on yourself? Just do two posts…and so, I will.
Part two will be on the blog tomorrow : )
PS If you’ve never been to BC, you need to go. They don’t call it ‘beautiful British Columbia’ for nothing.
PPS I work locally out of Vancouver, meaning I don’t charge travel fees when I shoot weddings there!
I do that because I love it, and I want to keep going back. Can you tell?

when you shoot the bride getting ready etc, are you able to just capture the moment, or do you ask for some repeats, “poses”, ect?
Haha!! Aww..Chels. You should! Come live in Chicago!
I teared up too! Girl you are so awesome… Such a blessing to be able to do what you do. Wish I Could live by you and be your apprentice! 🙂 LOL
love you.
Aww! Well, I’ll take tears as a big compliment. It was a beautiful day, I got a little teary myself.
I don’t even know these people but these pictures almost made me cry (you know me ).
The position of the cross behind them, the DRESS, the BOUQUET, the wind, the scenery, the hair were all in beautiful harmony and you captured it.
