I am always a huge proponent of people being themselves in front of the camera. {As in…why plan to go kayaking on a lake during your engagement session if you’ve never been kayaking before?} In our first meeting, it was clear that the epic Alaskan mountain/wilderness photos were not what Mike & Shannon were after. After talking with them a little more we decided that downtown Anchorage engagement photos with a bit of an urban vibe would be way more up their alley. I realized during my time with them that I have never done this kind of session in Anchorage before. Urban Chicago, Vancouver, Seattle, Milwaukee, Minneapolis…etc. YES but Anchorage? Not really. I’ll admit to being slightly skeptical at first but I love that it actually pushed me to see things differently. We met at the Pioneer Bar, which is a significant place for these two, walked down fourth ave and ended up around Ship Creek. There are lots of hidden gems in our city, you just have to know how to look.
