I haven’t blogged anything in literally years. I believe my last post was in 2021…! It doesn’t mean that I haven’t been working or that I haven’t been inspired. The reality is, I’ve been heavily focusing on reestablishing my work routines in a way that feels more balanced and sustainable and blogging was something that had to give. HOWEVER, for some reason today when I sat down at my computer if felt like time to flex the old blogger muscle. I’ll be honest, I didn’t remember how to get in to the back-end of my blog to create a new post, and thank God I had it saved to my browser tabs. Funny how something I used to do on a weekly basis (at least!) now feels foreign to me!
But I digress…
It makes me absolutely swoon when grace and elegance meet the mountains as they did on Reagan & Adam’s Hatcher Pass wedding day. Always has, always will. Before shooting weddings in Alaska I was based in Chicago for several years and every wedding I shot had a very urban vibe. I loved the elegance, the luscious, intricate details and the energy of those city weddings so much. When I left there I questioned whether I would find my people here in Alaska, I felt like Alaska wedding photography would be too different/out of alignment with my sense of style. What I realized fairly quickly is that whether it is an Alaska wedding or anywhere else, what its really about for me is the presence and style brought by the people themselves…their humanity and stories that I feel the most connected to. It also doesn’t hurt that the wildness of our landscape can rival the energy of the city any day, both are captivating to me. I think the people always has been, always will be what its all about. I am so honored to be a witness and documentarian of my clients’ stories, I am endlessly fascinated by how people work. And whether its an Alaska wedding in the middle of the vast wilderness or a Chicago wedding in a historic hotel, or anywhere in between, I just love capturing these memories in a way that will allow my clients to relive the moments for many years to come.
