I mentioned this on my instagram feed but I wanted to talk a little bit more about it here, too. In my experience there is more to beautiful portraits and wedding photography than the location, the outfits, the light, etc. Girdwood Couples Portrait Photographer
Last weekend I met up with Kim & Mike for a portrait session in Girdwood. We chose one of my favorite stunning locations surrounded by glaciers. We had a gorgeous sunny day and we made sure to schedule the shoot at just the right time of day. You know that soft, glowy light that elevates any photo? We got that! These are the basics when it comes to doing what you can to create photography that clients will love. But the thing is, photos can still fall flat even when all of these things are in place. I think the real difference is creating a space that allows people to truly let their guard down and relax in front of the camera. I’m pretty sure that when asked, almost anyone will say ‘I hate having my picture taken!’  I think we’ve all experienced this, you have a camera pointed towards you and you just freeze, feel stiff, don’t know where to put your hands…am I right? That is one aspect of a photographer’s job that is an absolute game changer, allowing people to feel at ease and open themselves up rather than giving in to the awkward feelings! This is something that it takes time to learn, but cultivating that kind of experience for clients is (in my opinion) the most important part of my job.
I felt like Kim & Mike rocked this session and as a photographer I couldn’t ask for a sweeter couple to work with! I’m glad to be able to give them some gorgeous portraits to mark this new stage in their life together as husband and wife.
