Jamie and I are in Alaska right now…visiting Jamie’s family for Christmas! I lived in Alaska for a year while we were engaged but this is my first time spending Christmas in Alaska. It’s cold!
This is the view from Dave & Julie’s (my in-laws) back deck…thats a frozen lake, and Pioneer Peak in the background.
Any guesses on what time of day this picture was taken? You might be surprised…Lingon Berries (or, lowbush cranberries) grow in the tundra up here. When I lived here I picked a TON of them and didn’t know what to do with them after that…then I got a recipe for Cranberry Citrus Cider. I made some this week again, so cozy! These horses live next door to Jamie’s parents. It makes me sad to see them cause they just look so cold! SO, I walked over for a visit the other day. I do think they appreciated the company though, next time I’ll bring an apple instead of my camera. Horses like apples, right? The snow is heavy on the trees – they all look like they’ve been frost bitten. I’ll take more pictures of that before I leave…but this one gives you a sense of the winter wonderland we’re in right now. Snow wasn’t fun in Vancouver where I grew up, it was damp and messy and no one was really prepared for it (with good winter clothing or plows or anything like that) so, I just didn’t like it all that much. I like snow a lot better up here.I don’t know who’s happier about us being here for Christmas…Jamie or Norm. Its a toss up.I hope you’re all able to take some time off this Christmas…a break from routine just feels so good sometimes.

PS. If you look closely you can see the ornament with a picture of Jamie on the tree from 1990…he was a stud, even then.
PPS. I didn’t edit these photos because all of my editing programs are on my desktop at home, so what you see is what you get : )

You’re close! I think it was closer to 10am! You must be really far north too, then?

  4. Erica says:

Yeah, I figured that out after taking a closer look – whoops! He’s on the green one you can’t see well in this pic…I guess you were a young stud yourself.

Hey Erica – wonderful Christmas pictures! Looks a lot like my home… So my guess for the time of that first picture would be around 9am. 😉 Have a blessed Christmas! -Nelli
