Last year around this time Jamie and I took a fall trip to New England and it was a perfect trip. Perfect timing for us, the perfect little relaxing getaway not too far from home…
This year, we thought it would be great to do something similar.
The day before we left, this was my Facebook status: “can’t wait for a beachy, warm, camp fires, B&B, cozy, relaxing mini-vacation with my husband!” Oh, the optimism!
Well…I’ll just say that the perfect fall trip did not quite re-live itself for us this year. I thought I’d wait a little while before blogging about it. You know, just to let the humor come out in the situation. So that I could laugh at the memory of waking up in a raging thunderstorm, soaking wet (we were camping) at 4am…making my way through the Jurassic Park style (seriously, parts of the movie were filmed here) downpour to wait it out in the car until it got light outside.
Well, two weeks later I’m not really laughing about our camping experience, but at least I can appreciate the other parts of our vacation. Like how Jamie bought a new tent, two tarps, a queen sized air mattress and a pump to make our next few nights more bearable. And, we did stay dry through THREE more thunderstorms.
…or how after camping we stayed in a B&B in the South of Broad neighborhood of Charleston. I have never been so thankful for a king sized bed, a bathroom down the hall and air conditioning! It felt like heaven.I like this picture of us…we definitely look a little worse for wear, but still pretty happy.
(That’s probably thanks to Jamie’s patience through my dramatics, and to large amounts of sweet tea, the greatest beverage ever created.)
